every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end.

i have always loved creeping on reading blogs. friends' blogs. celebrity blogs. people i don't know, and don't know how i found their blog, blogs. for some reason, i enjoy reading about other people's lives; but, i've never felt inclined to have others read about my life and what i'm doing each day.

i began my mom's online journal/blog through caringbridge.com on may 26, 2010, after my mom and family received the worst news of our lives. journaling on caringbridge was not only a convenient way to inform all our family and friends on mom's condition, but also a therapeutic outlet for me to vent about taking care of my mom during her final months and moments. after 143 journal entries and 7 months of chronicling my mom's diagnosis, courageous battle, and untimely death from colon cancer, i wanted to continue to express my feelings to my family, friends and faithful readers who followed along on mom's journey. i am ready to move on from mom's caringbridge site, and hope everyone who read caringbridge will join me on my new adventure of "blogging." i figured the new year was a good time to begin my blog.

it makes sense that most people look forward to a new year, hoping to find closure from the previous year. maybe they are ready to be done with a job, relationship, or bad habit, and feel a new year is the time to make changes. for me, this new year has brought bittersweet feelings. while i am excited to make personal changes and goals in the new year, i am surprisingly sad to see 2010 go. i figured i would want to be done with the past year, and all the heartache it brought our family, but then i realize 2010 was the last year i spent with my mom. i always try to remind myself that mom wouldn't want me, or any of us, to sit around moping and feeling sorry for ourselves, but if she were in my position i think she'd agree that's easier said than done!

with so much to look forward to, here's to a happier, healthier and brighter year!

  3. Cait I am so proud of you! You are an inspiration, just like your Mom. =) Yes, sometimes it is so hard to let go, but you have so much to look forward to. Your mom is up in heaven smiling and drinking her Diet Coke and relishing on all the great things ahead. I am excited to continue to follow your adventures and to hear your wonderful words. "You Go Girl!" Love ya!

  4. I love reading your Blog Cait, I just have to figure out how to comment because I am not computer savy, your writing is inspirational. Although it was extremely difficult I am glad I was there the day before your Mom passed, the experience of love and determination to keep your Mom at peace was unforgettable. The Love we all shared is surrounding her now.
I can't tell you how many times Suzy comes to mind now for me. It is so sad but enlightening in many ways.
    Love you Cait and family,
    Megan
